Projek AnaKawan

Anna and I had the privilege of going to Projek AnaKawan in Batam Indonesia this last Friday.  Projek AnaKawan began as a partnership between International Baptist Church of Singapore and the Gereja Baptis Aji Children's Home on Batam Island, Indonesia.  "Anak" means "child" and "Kawan" means "friend" in Bahasa Indonesia.  The home was started as a home for children who were either abandoned by or lost their parents as a result of the 2004 Tsunami.

We allowed Anna to skip a day of school for this outing.  The day started slow with some homework, a trip to the ferry terminal, a ferry ride to Indonesia, and then a bus trip to the children's home.  Finally, we arrived and were able to spend time with the kids.  On this trip, there was a Bible story, a Bible verse to help them learn English, snacks, crafts ... and games (which was our responsibility).

Here are just a few pictures from the day.

New friends

It was a good day!

It seemed like forever until we would get in the car and go to the fairy terminal. Once we got there it was a long time to get to the house. When we walked in it was not what I expected.  There were fewer kids than I expected, and where they lived wasn't very large.  We started with singing. They all knew the first song but the second one was new to them. After that we had a Bible story. Pastor Mento had to translate in Indonesian. Then we did games, the boys were better at dancing and the girls were better at sorting. Next we did crafts, they made little rockets. The boys were very artistic, but the girls just had fun! Finally we had a b-day party for pastor Mento's wife. It was sad to leave but the whole day was just FUN!
