Fun At The Cabin (Emily lands a big one)

Fishing at the cabin usually just means lots of nibbles, a few exciting moments, and a couple of pan fish (of something like that). This year, we found a new kind of excitement ... the landing of a northern on a kid's pole. Addlea, Anna, Emily and I (Aaron) were out on the paddle boat for our nightly fishing experience. Addlea was fishing, Anna was watching, and Emily was fishing from my lap. I was normally just the "daddy I need a new worm" guy ... when all of a sudden, Emily's pole starts to grind and jerk. Emily tried to reel it in, but the grinding was more effective than her reeling, so she handed the pole to me. I quickly realized this fish had a little bit more fight in it than the normal pan fish.

When we finally got the fish close to the boat, we saw how big it was, and that it wasn't a pan fish. This sent Emily into the back seat of the paddle boat quite quickly. Luckily, the fish cooperated, and we pulled a Northern into the boat. As soon as we had him over the boat, the line broke and I had a ~24 inch Northern laying at my feet in the paddle boat. Anna was radioing (via walkie talkie) into Aunt Marette at the cabin that we needed emergency back-up. It was definately big enough to keep, but Addlea and I really didn't want to. Anna and Emily thought we should keep it and show the rest of the family ... but Addlea and I thought pictures ... and a good story, was good enough. Since Aunt Marette wasn't coming with our emergency back-up as Anna had requested, we kissed our fish good bye ... and tossed him carefully back overboard. Wow - what an adventure. Well worth the price of some wax worms from the local bait shop.

So, without further ado ... I give you Emily's really big fish (especially for being landed by a kid's pole).

Fun At The Cabin (it's fishin time)

And, one highlight is to go fishing. The girls idea of fishing is for dad to put the worm on the hook and then remove the sea weed or the fish from the hook ... and then start all over again. That means I don't ever really fish ... but, we all have a great time. Anna caught the first fish of the trip, but Emily caught the biggest (see separate posting).

Fun At The Cabin #1

We arrived in Webster, WI for a fun 5 days at the cabin. Of course, it was beautiful; but also hot, muggy and buggy. But, we had fun anyway. We played multiple hours of Uno, other games, played ball outside, fished, ran around, ate ... and just plain had fun. Oh yeah, and we caught Anna doing the dishes. Amazing what seems fun in a cabin on vacation.

Circus World fun

We started our summer vacation into Wisconsin with a stop at Circus World Museum in Baraboo, WI. This was a place that I (Aaron) had grown up going to and was excited to take my kids to. I think they enjoyed it ... especially seeing circus stuff in an up close and very personal setting. Their favorites were the 1) tigers jumping through fire hoops, 2) an elephant balancing on a ball, and 3) a dog pulling a horse carriage with a monkey stage coach driver (that was really funny). And, stop #1 for cotton candy!!!
